I was wondering if there were any tracks around sc (mainly charleston) but just anywhere in the state really. I'd like to learn how to go sideways sometime if i get a 240. Or if you know of any tracks period, post em up with a link in here if you can. 8-)

CMP holds track events. Not drifting specifically, but you learn to handle a car at high speeds and you do end up sideways sometimes. They might frown upon continuously drifting every turn.

Southeast Drift I think holds events, but mainly in the Atlanta area. Haven't been to one myself.

Whats it mean by day garages are $50? Like it's $50 to go up and race? And do they do lessens there?

The garages are on top of the entry fee unfortunately. It's just the difference between having a covered, paved area to park between sessions vs. parking in the grass.

They do hold open events and they do give lessons, but it costs a bit more than that. The track runs their own track days sometimes through Turn One, it's $240 for an instructed track day and you probably get 60-120min of track time and a similar amount of classroom time.

If you don't want to pony up the money up front, you can look into other events such as NASA where you can work trackside for the organization and earn money or track credits. Basically if you work two weekends, you are paid with one weekend's worth of instructed track time. Not to mention, the work involved puts you either on the course at a flag station (i.e. front-row seats) or manning the grid area, and you get a chance to acclimate yourself to the people and flow of the event while earning credit rather than trying to take it in while also trying to manage your car.

There is an autocross in Anderson, SC on Nov. 22. It's also not strictly a drift event but we've had people bring cars set up for drift out.

Damn I'm gettin new struts put in on my car this week and I wouldn't be able to race even if I got up there because of this shitty trans program error I get when I brake real hard. Would I be able to help out for track credits at this?

Well the autocross is separate from the NASA track program. You'd be welcome to come drive in the autocross or just spectate, but there's no "credit" involved. In fact, everyone at the autocross takes turns "working" the course (fixing cones that get knocked over) and driving.

I guess it would be a long drive for you if you're not driving in the event? As for your brakes...just don't hit them hard, they just slow you down

Just as a general note, all these events require waivers for minors to participate. Get 'em started young!
